SIDNEY PAUL & Co wallpaper

Posted by on 9 October 2013 | 2 Comments

We are excited to launch our website SIDNEY PAUL & Co as a vehicle for our products and ideas. And are pleased to include our wallpaper collection, "Gentlemans Club," which comprises of four designs, Racer in two colours, Lexicon, Flight and Grand Tour. We have also included Verre Eglomise, which will be part of a larger collection called "Façade" that will be launched in January 2014. This is a preview of what is to come. All our wallpapers are printed to order therefore a two week lead time is required. We specialise in wider width rolls up to 120cm. This allows us greater freedom to design wallpapers that are not able to be conventionally printed. We print our designs on specially coated papers with finishes such as metallics and shine, not usually associated with digital printing.

Portrait photography

Posted by on 1 October 2013 | 1 Comments

Portrait photography is really my hobby. I love taking pictures of people and even though photography is part of my everyday job I see this as a different challenge. I simply enjoy the reaction of the person, as most people do not think that they take a good picture. My favourite image is the one above, of one of my oldest friends Jill. She does not like to have her picture taken but her love of vintage clothes helped me get an image that she was happy with. The image was taken in my dining room which has great light for portrait photography. It is painted in "Downpipe" by Farrow and Ball. I love this colour, it is not quite blue or grey and is surprisingly very warm. The room is naturally dark and by painting it a dark colour it has made it seem much larger. It is difficult to make a dark space light, so I believe you just have to go with it, be bold and make a dramatic statement. Dark walls are also great to show off your paintings and prints.

Sidney's sculpture

Sidney originally trained as a sculptor and there are some of his original pieces in our house, my favourite being the Torso made out of clay, over our fireplace.

Design your own kitchen

The Kitchen is one of our favourite rooms in the house, especially for Sidney as he loves to cook. We had great difficulty finding an individual kitchen at a reasonable price. A great way to get the kitchen you want is to find someone to hand make it for you. It requires a lot more patience but you can achieve fantastic results. We used Odeon Antiques in Leek to make ours. First I found several kitchens that I liked from magazine articles and used these for inspiration. Then Sidney drew sketches of what we wanted. Selected a colour, French Grey by Zoffany. To finish we wanted to add to the eclectic feel mixing a variety of handles and fittings. We were really pleased with the end result and most importantly kept the cost to a minium which allowed us to purchase a vintage dresser for the crockery and the oven of Sidney's dreams "Les Pianos Gastronomes" Lancanche.

Re-decorating

Posted by on 20 September 2013 | 0 Comments

Do you ever find that when you have completely decorated your whole house that you feel you need to start all over again? Well, it’s that time! The big dilemma... Having started with our bedroom, I painted a trompe l'oeil on one wall, it took me an age to complete. I now cannot decide whether or not to paint over it? Please comment and help me to decide... Should I aim for something a little less girly?
